Business Source Complete is an EBSCOhost database that contains scholarly, industry and trade, and popular business publications. It also contains company and industry profiles, SWOT analyses, and more.
This page provides two step-by-step tutorials:
Type your search terms into the search box and hit enter. For this example, we'll search for social media.
Underneath the search box with your search terms you'll the various limiters you've selected highlighted in blue. In this example, I've selected Full Text and Peer Reviewed.
Below the search box and limiters, you'll see the number of results you have and to the right, you'll see how you can view your results. The default view in by Relevance, but you can also select Date oldest or Date newest. Below Relevance you'll see three vertical dots. The various save features are found here.
Look below Relevance at the three vertical dots. Here you will find the Cite, Share, and Download options.
The Cite box will pop up when you click on Cite. From here you have the option to Copy citation or Export citation. Use the drop down under Select stye to choose from the various citation style option. The most common are APA, Chicago, and MLA. Once the citation appears, click on Copy to clipboard in the bottom right of the box. Once copied you can pate it into your paper or research document.
The Share box will pop up when you click on Share. From here you have the option to send the article to your OneDrive or to Create link.
If you click on Create link, it will show create a permanent link to the article. All you have to do is click on Copy to clipboard and save the link.
To email the article to yourself or a friend, click on Email and type your email address in the Send email to box, then click Send.
The Download box will pop up when you click on Download. From here select the format you you'd like to download and click the download button.
The default search box on the Business Source Complete home page is the basic search. In order to find specific types of publications, such as company profiles or SWOT analyses, we'll need to click on Advanced search on the top right corner of the basic search box.
On the first link of the Advanced search box, type in a company name. For this example, we'll use Pepsi.
Now scroll down until you see Publication Type. Select Company Profile and SWOT Analysis from the drop down and click search.
On the left of the page you will see the number of results you have from the search, in this case 135 results for Pepsi and Company profile or SWOT Analysis. Above the title of each result it will tell you what type of publication it is and you will see your search terms highlighted in yellow.
Click on a result, then use the Access options dropdown to see the PDF or online full text reading options (each article will have various reading options). To the right, you will see the cite, share (includes email option), and download features.
