French Language Subject Guide: Manuscript Collections

Subject Guide provides information on French language books and manuscripts dating from the sixteenth century through the end of the Napoleonic era in 1815 .

Collection Material

Felix LaBauve Collection.  Contains a citation of honor signed by Napoleon Bonaparte attesting the presentation of a “Sword of Honor” to Colonel Felix LaBauve. Also included are handwritten notes from LaBauve, his service record, and naturalization papers.  1 box.

Map Collection.  Includes several reproductions of French maps of Louisiana Territory dating from 1687 through the seventeenth century (see Series 1 & 2 on the collection finding aid for details).

Priscian Fragments Collection.  Includes a fragment of a French missal circa 15th century (Folder 9).

Skipwith Revolutionary War Collection.  Folder 15 contains a handwritten letter from Count de Rochambeau to Governor Garrison dated 26 June 1782.  Count de Rochambeau offers to lead French troops to New York alongside American forces in order to expel British troops from the city.  Note:  transcript of the letter available in Folder 44.  1 box.
