DDA = Demand Driven Acquisitions PDA = Patron Driven Acquisitions EBA = Evidence Based Acquisitions
All of these programs present users with a large collection of possible electronic content, and purchases are made based on what content is actually used by patrons.
Titles included in these programs are based on subject specific and research level profiles determined by subject specialists.
Suggestions for additional vendors should go to Christina Torbert and Brian Young.
JSTOR Ebooks: Autopurchases are triggers on the seventh (7th) use of a title.
ProQuest Ebook Central: Autopurchases are triggered when a patron views a ebook for more than 5 minutes, prints, copies or downloads a chapter or the full ebook. There is no limit to the number of pages viewed by the patron within the 5 minute free view period. The Ebook Central model does not count usage across all users to generate a trigger.
EBSCOHost Ebooks: Autopurchases are triggered when a patron browses an ebook for more than 10 minutes, views 10 pages in the ebook, or downloads, emails, or prints any portion of the ebook.
Beginning in 2019/2020, titles available to users on the Kanopy platform are set at the filmmaker collection level. Titles not immediately available will trigger a request to Acquisitions which will be evaluated for possible addition to the PDA program.
Suggestions for additional, demand-driven programs for streaming video should be sent to Christina Torbert and Brian Young.
Films must achieve a minimum of 4 plays within a 12-month period to trigger – anything less than 4 plays and the films are free. The plays do not accumulate over time, and your program is only driven by the usage in a given year.
In terms of what constitutes a “play”, there are two important thresholds to this:
Brill -- list of >16,000 European research books published from 1912 forward. Program began in July 2021 and continues to be active
JSTOR -- list of primarily university press titles published prior to 2021. Program began in July 2021 and continues to be active
Taylor and Francis (and subsidiary presses) -- program for selected titles published by T&F presses. Current program began in July 2021 and continues to be active
Oxford University Press -- program for history, literature, music, and philosophy running April 2019-April 2020
Cambridge University Press -- program for music ran in 2018 and continues to be active
Requests for additional programs should be directed to the appropriate subject librarian and to Collection Steering Committee.
Library pre-pays a certain amount to a publisher and determines what set of titles will be made available to the patrons. Content is available without restriction for a set amount of time, usually a year. At the end of the established time, librarians review the usage data and select titles to retain permanently. Selected titles will have a cost value up to the amount pre-paid at the beginning of the program.
