Artificial intelligence literacy is the ability to understand and think critically about how this technology works, how it is designed, and where its application is appropriate.
Building any skill set will take time. Below are steps to help develop your understanding and ability to use AI effectively.
Step One: Building an Understanding
-Learn necessary terminology such as machine learning, large language models, deeper learning, corpus, etc.
-Understand the different types of AI (generative AI, speech recognition, deep learning, etc.)
-Watch tutorials or demonstrations of popular AI tools to gain a sense of how to use them.
-Review concerns surrounding AI (More resources on this coming soon)
Step Two: Apply that Knowledge
- Try AI programs with different purposes.
- Identify any major ethical concerns before/when using a program.
- Be responsible with sensitive data.
Step Three: Evaluate and Assess
- Test different prompts, programs, and datasets. Compare similar programs for accuracy, easy of use, pricing, transparency, etc.
- Consider strengths and weaknesses. How could it be improved?
- Review significant findings or take aways.
Step Four: Create (Optional)
- Start exploring open-sourced programs to test ways to improve features
- Consider what type of AI program you have experience with and would like to build.
- Identify potential partners and/or experts in the field that could serve as a mentor.
