The University of Mississippi Libraries' Open Access Fund is designed to provide support in paying article processing charges (APCs) related to publication in open access journals. The fund is managed by the University Libraries with contributions from the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP).
The fund is open to all University of Mississippi students, faculty, and staff. Only one author per paper may apply. An applicant will be limited to funding for one article per semester. Articles must be published or available online ahead of publication when applying. Articles will be accepted up to a year after their publication date.
Applicants should be aware of the differences between open access and predatory publishing. Please review RX Communications' 6 Ways to Spot a Predatory Journal blog post for identifying potentially predatory publishers before submitting an article for publication. The selection committee reserves the right to make the final decision on whether a journal is considered a credible open access resource. Articles published in potentially predatory journals will not be selected for funding.
Articles submitted by graduate students, staff, and pre-tenure faculty will be given preference. Articles will also be evaluated for disciplinary diversity. Authors from all fields are strongly encouraged to apply.
Selected authors will be required to provide an invoice or receipt from the publisher showing the APC charged and a proof of payment showing the exact amount paid by the author or an associated University account.
Articles are accepted on a rolling basis, with awards given in the fall and spring semesters. Please see the table below for details on submission dates. Authors will be notified if their articles will be funded within 3-5 weeks of the end of the submission period.
|Fall Semester||Spring Semester|
|Submission Period Start Date||June 1||January 1|
|Submission Period End Date||December 31||May 31|
