The University of Mississippi Libraries' Open Access Fund is designed to provide support in paying article processing charges (APCs) related to publication in open access journals.
Selected authors will receive 20% of the APC charged for the submitted journal article. The Fund provides for $2,000 a semester.
The fund is open to all University of Mississippi students, faculty, and staff. Only one author per paper may apply. An applicant will be limited to funding for one article per semester. Articles must be published or available online ahead of publication when applying. Articles will be accepted up to a year after their publication date. Articles will not be accepted if the APC has been paid in full by another funding source (department, grant, etc.).
Articles submitted must be published in a journal listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals and/or follow the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association’s Code of Conduct. Articles published in "hybrid" journals, those that offer an open access option in an otherwise conventional journal, are not eligible.
Articles submitted by graduate students, staff, and pre-tenure faculty will be given preference. Articles will also be evaluated for disciplinary diversity. Authors from all fields are strongly encouraged to apply.
Accepted articles will be deposited in the University's institutional repository, eGrove.
Articles are accepted on a rolling basis with semester deadlines of November 1, 2019 for the Fall and for the Spring. Authors will be notified if their articles will be funded within 3-5 weeks of the deadline. Selected authors will be required to provide an invoice or receipt from the publisher showing the APC charged.
