Open Access: Open Access Fund

Open Access Fund

The University of Mississippi Libraries' Open Access Fund is designed to provide support in paying article processing charges (APCs) related to publication in open access journals. The Fund provides up to $2,000 a semester.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

The fund is open to all University of Mississippi students, faculty, and staff. Only one author per paper may apply. An applicant will be limited to funding for one article per semester. Articles must be published or available online ahead of publication when applying. Articles will be accepted up to a year after their publication date.

The Fund reimburses 20% of the APC for a submitted articles. Reimbursements beyond 20% of the total APC are made at the discretion of the Fund committee with preference given to those using personal funds to pay APCs.

Selection Criteria

Articles submitted must be published in a journal listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals and/or follow the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association’s Code of Conduct. Articles published in "hybrid" journals, those that offer an open access option in an otherwise conventional journal, are not eligible.

Articles submitted by graduate students, staff, and pre-tenure faculty will be given preference. Articles will also be evaluated for disciplinary diversity. Authors from all fields are strongly encouraged to apply.

Accepted articles will be deposited in the University's institutional repository, eGrove

Articles are accepted on a rolling basis. The Spring deadline has been extended until May 1. Authors will be notified if their articles will be funded within 3-5 weeks of the deadline. Selected authors will be required to provide an invoice or receipt from the publisher showing the APC charged and a proof of payment showing the exact amount paid by the author or an associated University account.
