Principles of Sustainability

There is no standardized, widely accepted definition of sustainability. For our purposes, we consider sustainability to be the maintenance or improvement of quality of life for people with minimal impact on the natural environment.

The principles of sustainabilty that are used to support that goal are:

  • Using resources efficiently to minimize waste and do more with less.
  • Making decisions with deference to a triple bottom line--balancing values of what is good for people, the planet, as well as profit.
  • Living in a way today that does not impede the ability of future generations to live and prosper.
  • Considering the full scope of consequences to our actions and taking steps to minimize waste.
