Mindfulness Hike at Baileys' Woods
Use this attachment as a script to guide a group of people (or yourself!) through a silent, contemplative hike in Baileys' Woods on the trail from the UM Museum to Rowan Oak. This refreshing mindfulness walk takes about 20-25 minutes each way on the 3/5 mile winding, wooded trail.

Baileys' Woods Walking ScriptCreated by: Camp Best
Find our celebri(trees) on the Walk the Ole Miss Tree Trail on campus whenever you want to reflect on themes from the Common Read and enjoy the natural beauty of Ole Miss. Each year Landscape Services plant anywhere from 400-800 trees around campus. There are 2 Champion Trees on the Ole Miss Campus: the Northern Catalpa (by the Student Union) and the Osage Orange. The two Willow Oak trees near J.D. Williams Library were planted on Arbor Day in 1932 to commemorate George Washington’s bicentennial birthday. These two trees are appropriately named George and Martha.

CRE Community of Voices EssayWhile the Common Read is a text provided to incoming freshmen, we encourage participation from all UM undergraduate students. Each year, the prompt is inspired by the text. However, your essay should not be about the text. Therefore, even students who have not read the text are able to participate.
Essay rules:
· The annual challenge is open to all UM undergraduate students.
· One winner and two finalists will be chosen by a panel of judges.
· The winner will receive a $400 scholarship, awarded through the student’s bursar account.
· Entries must be submitted through the online portal.
· The deadline to submit is December 31, 2025, with the winners and finalists announced in March 2026.
· Note that there isn't a length requirement. As the writer, you would decide how long the essay needs to be to effectively answer the prompt. -
